Step 2

High school diploma/GED

At minimum, 99.9% of departments require this document. So, if you don't have this yet, then you need to acquire this before you can really get started.

Step 3

Secondary Schooling

While departments are generally requiring less training and certifications prior to being hired, most departments still have the minimum requirement of EMT basic prior to application.

There are tons of online accredited programs that you can get this licensure through, or you can check with your local college for classes, but this is a good step in the direction of making yourself a better candidate.

Step 4

Application/Interest cards

This is where things get real! Start by looking for cities you are interested in. Most cities have several departments within the city, so do some research. If the city is not hiring at the moment, it's okay! Fill out a job interest card on their website. This will notify you when their applications do open.

Make sure you read their requirements completely. If it says "at time of application," that means it is needed in order to apply. If it says "at time of hiring," then that means you have time to still obtain the requirements.

Step 5

Conquer the Process

Once you have completed the above steps, get ready to start testing.

As long as your application is accepted, you'll be able to take a written exam. There are so many varieties of written exams, and in the future, I want to release some general tips and tricks to taking a written exam, so be on the lookout for that!

Once you pass the written exam, you'll move on to the oral boards, and this is where great candidates separate themselves from just "applicants."

Want to make yourself one of the "great candidates"? My course, Conquer the Process, will help you reach these goals and separate yourself from the crowd. Click below to enroll today!
